Keysi Fighting Method (KFM) is an art form dedicated towards the study and investigation of survival in the modern day urban environment. It was developed on the Gypsy streets of Spain in the late 1950's by Justo Dieguez (the founder), who along with Andy Norman (the cofounder) developed and refined it & bought it to the United States. It has become famous for it's ballistic and dynamic style and has been featured in the movies: Batman Begins, Batman The Dark Knight, and Mission Impossible 3.
KFM New York is the first school in New York and one of the very few schools in the United States.
The Keysi Fighting Method (KFM) is not just Self defense training but a journey of self discovery and investigation. It is a dynamic approach to the world of Personal Defense concentrating both on the physical and emotional sides of combat. KFM takes a much closer look into the arena of self-truth then other Martial Arts and it quickly eradicates all myths and fantasies that surround the field of self protection.
KFM is not a copy of this or that, nor is it a theoretical explanation of many different martial arts. On the contrary it is a perfectly planned and defined unity of concepts and principles, fruit of long, rigorous and tested introspection. KFM is NOT a sport, traditional or classical martial art system but rather a pure street fighting method. It is the consequense of real life events and experiences plus subsequent years of investigation and development.
What really separates KFM from other Martial Arts is the "Method" of learning used. KFM is NOT "technique" driven. KFM is driven by "Instinct". In a self defense situation you can have all the techniques in the world but if you don't have the proper instinct to drive them you have nothing. It's like a car without gasoline. KFM develops the students "Instinct", harnessing it, cultivating it and building it from the first day of their training on.
The KFM curriculum has also been perfectly planned out for the student. Our Instructors don't come to class and teach "what they feel like" on a particular day. Every step of the students training from class 1 to class 168 (1st level Black Grade) has been progressively designed down to the last detail.
The "Method" is designed to take the student from A to Z in a manner were the nervous system can digest the information properly and the student develops progressively with real usable skill (Not a pile of techniques that a student can't use or link together under the stress of real combat).
All this is supported with the technology of today. Once the student learns the class at the Academy , the same class is then made available to them on-line for their reference to practice outside of class. The on-line video's and notes are downloadable to your personal computer or Ipod so you can take them anywhere. As the student progresses so does his on-line library with all the material from his previous training to reference.
Thru this "Method" we transform our students from a Prey mindset into a Predator mindset and the training itself is life altering. The levels, intensity and material get deeper and deeper as you progress into the system and you find out more and more about yourself as you are pushed beyond what you thought were your limits. The confidence, discipline, awareness, inner strength and mindset developed have the uncanny ability to cross over to other areas of your life. The training really does becomes life altering in a positive way.
The Keysi Uniform is that which you wear in the street. We do not wear traditional Martial Arts belts or uniforms. Violence can happen at any time or any place so our students are trained in all types of clothing/footwear, both inside in the Academy and outside on the concrete in all types of weather.
The Keysi Grades of advancement are as follows: White, Yellow, Orange, Green, Blue, Brown, Black (Black has 10 Grades) We do not charge for testing or rank. Rank is paid for with hard work, commitment and skill. Not money.

Students are promoted only after they finish the material for their Grade and they sucessfully pass the test for their Grade. By not charging for our testing, KFM New York can maintain extremely high standards for our students.)
The KFM Curriculum encompasses the following seven ranges of combat :
1. Projectile weapons
2. Hand held weapons
3. Kicking range
4. Punching range
5. Trapping range
6. Standing grappling and takedowns
7. Ground fighting
Multiple Opponent training begins on your first day and progresses throughout your training.
